So far it was really hard to export settings in Drupal, this made it particularly hard to reuse configurations and to do deployment between development, staging and production servers. Features is a module that addresses this problem: it allows you to bundle exportables and to switch them on and off on a site. This is really powerfull, currently features supports amongst others exportables for Views, Content types, contexts and since recently also Rules. We'll also explain how to make a feature for Open Atrium and shortly discuss why we use Features instead of Patterns (an alternative solution for the settings problem).
